Jeanette is a Registered Care Manager working in residential care
How long have you worked in care?
“For over 20 years.”
What does your current role as a Registered Care Manager involve?
“I’m in charge of a care home, so it’s my responsibility to look after all the residents and staff. I oversee the general running of the home, care plans for residents, liaising with the council, talking to relatives and more.”
Have you always worked in care?
“Yes. I’m from Sweden, so I started working in care when I was there. I’ve been a personal assistant to children with learning difficulties and I’ve worked with vulnerable adults, so I’ve always worked in care, really.”
“I’ve been caring from a very young age, even before working life.”
What do you love most about working in care?
“Seeing all the residents’ happy faces. When things go well and they’re happy, I love that.”
What inspired you to get into the care sector?
“When I was little, I had a cousin that was my age and when she born, she didn’t get enough air so she had a severe brain injury. She used to live with us on the weekends.
“She was in a residential home, and they used to send her home because she had a runny nose and she couldn’t wipe it herself. They said it was disgusting so they sent her home.
“I thought why would you work in care to look after someone and not look after them? She couldn’t do it herself.
“I’ve been caring from a very young age, even before working life.”
